HubPages An Addictive Online Writing Community
67I logged on to HubPages once. Read the rules to publish, putts around reading some very interesting hubs, decided to go ahead and write my very first online hub. All of a sudden I’m hooked on this online writing forum. How does that happen? That was about two years ago. I’m real glad I’ve never tried drugs, because I never realized I had an addicting personality. Be forewarned that HubPages can be a very addictive community.
Not quite sure how I stumbled upon HubPages. I want to say I was bored out of my mind at the office one day, tired of reading the same MSN news, clicking from page to page, link to link when a claim of making money by writing online caught my eye. Shortly thereafter I received an email from Mark over at the KeyWord Academy, there were no claims of easy money and that alone seemed interesting - a switch up from most make easy money fast claims online. I just had to find out and immediately I pulled out my 007 cloak and magnifying glass and started inspecting this HubPages and its online Community.
As I skimmed through some articles it dumbfounded me they were called hubs. The only hub I knew of was Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. That’s what my friends and I nicknamed it after losing a small fortune at this 5 star high tech luxurious casino. We started referring to it as the Devil’s Hub and vowed to never go back. HubPages is a different type of hub.
I decided to read up on the basic rules and regulations on the HubPages site and thought, “I Can Do This” . It looked like it might be fun, lets see if money can really be made. Unlike other ads where they lure you in to then try to sell you books, a training course or supplies, there was no catch. I had to invest my time, that’s it. I thought I would try it out as an experiment, I have no problem investing in myself to see if money would pour in.
I’ve been around for a couple years now. Haven’t made a killing but a few cents here and there. I am a patient person, I figure it will pretty soon add up. I suspect though many a hub will need to be created and older ones recreated. I've learned plenty about writing, keywords, and layout of hubs. I am no authority just a work in progress but in the meantime I have fun here. I’ve met through this community some interesting and really talented hubbers and some funny ones too. Everyone has their own style and that what sets each hubber apart. As writing styles differ and so do the readers what appeals to one does not necessarily appeal to all. You as a short hub writer can find and capture your own audience
What I didn’t count on, was actually enjoying this online writing. I’m no professional writer, as if you really couldn’t tell! I like reading what others have to say, sharing and commenting if I really like something. I am learning from others hubs and hubbers while slowly perfecting my own writing skills. It’s a great way to empty loads of random thoughts from my head. I’ve also virtually gotten to meet some new global friends.
I find not everyone as open minded and pleasant as I would like them to be. Real or virtual community, personalities are as diverse as in the real world. To each their own. I don’t really know any hubbers personally or the cross they bear to criticize and make assumptions as to their rudeness. There are plenty pleasant hubbers with great attitudes and better etiquette even if sometimes we happen to disagree.
It’s only polite to acknowledge someone that’s gone to the trouble of commenting on one of your hubs. As it is just common courtesy to respect someone else’s opinion if it differs. Maybe the fact that some hubbers aren’t actual writers makes those that are turn up their noses, maybe its competition for topics and material, maybe the fact that they aren’t face to face is used as a shield to be less tolerant and more verbally aggressive. Interestingly, I wonder if these same hubbers would offend others if they happened to be within close proximity. Who knows…they know who they are and if the shoe fits… .
No, HubPages is not paying me to plug their site. Believe me they have some pretty awesome writers on staff and excellent hubbers to choose from if that was their plan. HubPages is a great place for aspiring writers, publishers, and bloggers. It features an easy, and helpful online writing community. It provides plenty of information to assist you in learning the ropes. It's staff that will answer questions and encourage you to write via planned activities like HubMobs.
Occasionally I view their forums as a form of recreation. You can play if you so choose and chat with others about anything, but religion and politics seem to be the dominant theme. They offer help and resources if you get a bit lost or encounter any trouble. Plenty of Hubs written about HubPages can be used as tutorials. There is a wealth of information and the site is user friendly. What more could you ask for!
Only thing they fail to tell you … What no one really wants to say but you just found out in this hub - writing hubs online via HubPages could be addictive. There I said it! What started off as a pleasant hobby has turned into a pleasant obsession. I’m an adult , sure that I can deal with this addiction…so, I’m off to write another hub.

It really is addictive. I think about it in the middle of the night and I want to run to it a thousand times a day. I do it for the writing, I have yet to sign up for adsense.
Ain't it the truth! It is surely addicting. I liked your Hub. You're a good writer.
Bail Up I know what you mean , I have not talked to anyone in days ! Oddly enough they seem happy about that . I do miss alot of meals too. Now if I can just find a way to hang out here and still get a paycheck from my job I will be stoked ! Maybe we need to start an online 12 step program or something . Good Hub !
Yes. That is the true part of hub-pages. Really some awesome writers, excellent communication, money making ideas are there to share with the person of your love!! Good Hub!! keep ur effort on the right focus.
To me hubpages is a learning zone and of course I am addicted to it.No matter how much busy I am when I get back home or in my off line I try to log on in hubpages. Apart from reading hubs ,forums discussions give me lots of interesting ideas to rethink my understanding of some really important issues.Above all its sheer delight and fun to be with hub community.
You could have been describing me! Another confessed Hubpages addict - Guilty as charged.
Thanks for the Hub - made me feel less abnormal
Hi Lisa, I agree hubpages is truly addictive I write for so many sites, but this one is really the best. Thanks for becoming a fan.
Well you got a bullseye with that one!I joined just a short time ago and I feel the anxiety of going on the hub pages and reading different hubs.I can easily get lossed and hours fly by.I never was a computer person so the computer games never interested me.Thank God.I would of been addicted years ago.I have written some of my own personal poems, stories and thoughts.Since I have seen the most incredible hubs on every subject imaginable.I can barely type let alone have well written articles with pictures to die for.I love that one of my hubs I wrote was read. They picked me out of all the hubs they could read..I still am not sure how they find me but I am so glad they did.I first want to thank you for reading my hub and hopefully you will enjoy.I have already found your talents for writing exciting and your opinions shared. You make the hub pages worthwhile and fun.I have never looked back and cursed the hub pages like other things that consume my time.I love that I can write in the middle of the night.I can read till the early morning comes up.I can find friends and share fun.I know my t.v. time has been drastically reduced.I love the t.v. and movies but it is either one or the other.I picked the hub pages hands down.Well I try not to comment to long.I just want to say welcome and glad to be an addicted hubber too.
